Ladybird Cupcakes

The covered cupcakes

I removed the cupcake cases and flipped the buns upside down where I trimmed the cakes to give them flat bottoms. Next I thinly coated them with buttercream before rolling out red icing. I covered the cakes with the icing and carefully cut off the excess. After I had done this to each cake, I rolled out black icing and cut out small dots, large circles and long strips of fondant. I put cut the large circles just over half and stuck them on as the face. I carved cute smiles and eyes into each one. Next I put the black strip to separate the wings and finally the black spots.

Eggless Ginger Cake

For my 1940’s camp I am attending, I needed to make an authentic cake to bring. I decided to bake an eggless ginger cake because eggs were in short supply and this was a genuine recipe. First of all I measured out the flour, small amounts of sugar and fat and mixed well. Next I added 1 teaspoon of ground ginger to taste. Then, I mixed bicarbonate of soda and vinegar and poured the frothy result into the cake mix and stirred well. Before baking I poured the mixture into a greased loaf tin and baked for 25 minutes. It didn’t rise that much but it turned out better than I had expected! To serve i wrapped it in brown paper and tied it with string.

Oat Lace Cookies

This was a new recipe and I was a bit sceptical about the quantity of some of the ingredients but it worked out well in the end. I combined 12oz of sugar, 6oz of rolled oats and 6oz of flour together in a bowl. Next, I melted some butter and used this to bind the mixture together. Finally I added 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence. I put small spoonful’s of the mixture on a baking tray and cooked in the oven for 8 minutes. The cookies were quite gooey in the centre and had a nice crunch to the outside.
